Event Description/Details:The Center for Catholic Studies is getting out of the classroom and into the big city. Led by Thomas Rzeznik, professor of history, the Center's Tours of Catholic New York will allow students to experience the sights and sounds of New York City as they learn how Catholicism has helped shape its history and culture. On Saturday, September 19, experience a taste of Catholic New York -- literally! Enjoy an afternoon of great food and lively entertainment in the heart of Little Italy during the annual San Gennaro Festival. The trip includes a visit to Old St. Patrick’s, the city’s first cathedral. The group will meet in front of the Bishop Dougherty University Center at 12:30 p.m. and travel into the city by train. R.S.V.P. by Wednesday, September 16. On Saturday, November 7, explore the churches of old New York, beginning with the Mother Seton Shrine at Battery Park, and continuing up Broadway to Trinity Church, St. Peter’s and other sites. The trip will conclude at the South Street Seaport, where students can walk along the river, explore the shops, and enjoy a meal on their own. The group will meet in front of the Bishop Dougherty University Center at 9:30 a.m. and travel into the city by train. Space is limited. R.S.V.P. by Wednesday, November 4.
